Navigating the legal system can further add to the trauma of women experiencing family and domestic violence. Safety of women attending court in regional Victoria is of major concern. Some of the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Family Violence include the need for victims to have access to safe rooms and separate entries to perpetrators at court, and the ability to give evidence remotely. The aim is to have specialist family violence courts, which currently operate in a small number of locations, to be in place within 5 years.
