In this article, Mary Barry, Chief Executive of Our Watch, debunks some myths about what drives violence against women. This is in response to the discourse about drivers of violence against women on Monday night's Q&A which did not reflect the evidence.
Latest international evidence shows there are certain factors that consistently predict - or drive - higher levels of such violence. These include beliefs and behaviours reflecting disrepect for women, low support for gender equality, and adherence to rigid or stereorypical gender roles relations and identities.
