"Fury as more graffiti hits anti-violence sign put up after mum's death," Simone Fox Koob, Sydney Morning Herald, September 4, 2018
The
type of behaviour outlined in this article falls on a spectrum of
what is called "resistance". Resistance occurs when a person is
threatened, or perceives they are being threatened, by change.
Challenging rigid views around gender and gender roles, and the way such
views underpin family/domestic violence, is challenging to some in the
community, and this manifests itself in resistance. The sort of
behaviour discussed in the article seems pointless and destructive, but
it has been argued that for resistance to occur, then change must be
occurring, albeit gradually. Preventing violence against women and
children involves cultural change, and cultural change is a slow process
which requires a long term, multi-faceted approach. You can find the article here.
