"New domestic violence laws to target drunk men who breach restraining orders," Michael Kozial, Sydney Morning Herald, December 6, 2017

6 December 2017

At last there is some movement on the federal front to target weaknesses in federal laws when dealing with family violence. Violent men who breach personal protection injunctions (issued by the Family Court) will no longer be able to use drunkenness as an excuse. Police will now be able to arrest perpetrators who breach injunctions without a warrant having to be issued. New panels which include a domestic violence expert, constituted to deal with custody disputes over children, are a very positive change. There is much more to be done to revamp the way the Family Court deals with domestic violence, but it is a good start. Read about these changes and more here.
