WRISC receives funding through Telstra Country Wide Grant

WRISC has recently received $2,500 through the Telstra Country Wide Ballarat Community Fund grants for stage 2 of the "Spread the
Word" project.
The WRISC website has recently undergone a major redevelopment, to be able to provide an accessible and up-to-date resource to women and the broader community concerned about family violence. Feedback from women who have accessed WRISC services consistently reported that they did not know WRISC existed or what WRISC could do to help them. In assessing how to increase this awareness, we established that a large percentage of people looking for any service today, do so via the Internet and using a mobile device (eg. SMART phone).
The anonymity and accessibility of the internet make it an important early source of information gathering and potentially increases women's access to needed resources and assistance. The website is also available to the broader community and has the potential to increase community knowledge and to strengthen the community's capacity to take a stand against violence in the home.
The funding provided through the Telstra Country Wide Ballarat Community Fund grant enables WRISC to be able to incorporate new technology into the website, to assist those with print disabilities and those with English as a second language. The new feature will deliver instant high quality speech, so at the click of a button the text on any page can be read aloud. This will greatly increase the accessibility of vital information and resources. The funding has also enabled the inclusion of the capability to add PDF attachments to various areas of the site. This feature means we can display information about upcoming women's groups, children's therapy groups, and other information, to ensure access to these services.
