"Clementine Ford: The male victims of domestic violence we need to listen to," Clementine Ford, The Age, June 20, 2017
20 June 2017
In this thought provoking article, Clementine Ford examines the way
family violence is often portrayed in the media, particularly in cases
of family homicide. These acts can be depicted as aberrations -
committed by "good blokes" for whom such acts are "out of character".
The systematic violence and abuse endured by their victims over many
years is left unexamined. Ford goes on to claim that the more common
face of male domestic violence victims is that of a man traumatised by a
childhood in which his father, stepfather or father figure created an
environment of violence in which he, his mother and any siblings were
targeted.
