A form of abuse not so often recognised is financial abuse. As with all
forms of abuse, financial abuse is about power and control. Women can
be particularly vulnerable to financial abuse due to earning less,
working part time or taking time out from the workforce due to child
rearing, or because of gendered stereotypes which see a woman's primary
role as home maker. As well as being denied access to money and
financial decision making, women can be rendered accountable for even
the most trivial spending. Denying access to study and work
opportunities is also a form of financial abuse. Read more here.
